BSMI is the abbreviation of "bureau of standards, metrology and inspection" issued by the Standards Inspection Bureau of the Ministry of economy of Taiwan.

According to the announcement of the Ministry of economy of Taiwan, from July 1, 2005, products entering Taiwan should be supervised in terms of electromagnetic compatibility and safety regulations. According to different products, there are three certification methods:

Type approval batch by batch inspection

There are computers, cash registers, analog or hybrid automatic data processors, portable digital automatic data processors, other digital automatic data processors, other digital automatic data processors, digital processing units other than those of heading 8471.41 or 8471.49, terminals, point matrix tabulators, laser tabulators, chrysanthemum wheel tabulators, other tabulators, keyboards, images Scanner, other input or output unit, calculator with special program control or word processor with memory energy, magnetic or optical reader, data input device of input data processor, other automatic data processor, automatic teller machine, continuous power supply (capacity not exceeding 10 kVA) and other continuous power supply under section 8471 There are 25 products, such as electronic machine with translation or dictionary function, drawing table with data processing system and drawing machine with data processing system.

The inspection method of "electrostatic converter for automatic data processor and its auxiliary units and communication equipment" and "other switching power supply" were changed to commodity verification and registration.

Declaration of conformity

1. Pocket data machine with calculation function, reproduction and display machine, electronic calculator (not operated by external power supply), electronic calculator with list device, other electronic calculators, other calculators, hard disk drives, soft disk drives, optical drives, other disk drives, other storage units, other automatic data processing units Parts and accessories of other machines of heading 8471.10 (limited to inspection of class B computer main board and all internal cards of class B computer with I / O) and other products of 17 items in total, i.e. products subject to declaration of conformity inspection.

2. Eight items of products, including word processor, automatic typewriter, electric typewriter, other electric typewriters, Braille typewriter (weighing no more than 12kg), Braille typewriter (weighing no more than 12kg), non electric typewriter (weighing no more than 12kg), and other non electric typewriters, shall be listed in the declaration of conformity (DOC) inspection.

3. Seven items of electronic calculator (excluding external power supply operator), internal magnetic (optical) disc player, computer main board and internal card are not included in the safety inspection scope.

BSMI certification in Taiwan is mandatory. It has requirements for both EMC and safety. However, BSMI does not have factory inspection at present, but it must follow the regulations of the Bureau of standards. Therefore, BSMI certification mode is: product inspection + registration supervision.

I. type approval includes two types:

1. Type approval (EMC + safety). Since January 1, 2004, 178 kinds of electronic and electrical products need to apply for such approval. Applicable standards: EMC + safety, and the documents to be provided include (application for product type approval, license of the company or factory, test report, technical documents for electromagnetic compatibility: photos, labels, parts with electromagnetic interference, block diagram, user manual and technical documents for safety regulations). Certificate validity: three years, can be extended once.

2. EMC type approval (replacing the original EMC application) shall be enforced from November 1, 2002. Applicable products: 61 electronic and electrical products only have EMI requirements, 124 electronic and electrical products only need EMI + safety regulation report (if the product has safety regulation requirements). Applicable standard: EMI only. The documents to be provided are (EMC type approval application, test report, technical documents: photos, labels, EMC parts, block diagram and user manual).

II. Certification and registration

For electronic and electrical products, the three application methods provided by the Standards Bureau are as follows:

1. The declaration of conformity is only applicable to some parts of information technology equipment (please refer to the product description on the website of the Bureau of standards and inspection).

2. The product cost manufacturer shall apply for certification registration or type approval at its own discretion.

3. The differences between approval registration and type approval are as follows:

I. inspection method: if the product has been type approved, the inspection of customers will be simplified. For the products applying for certification and registration, we will not check the customers and take random sampling test in the market.

2. Fee difference: the application fee for certification and registration is higher than that for formal approval, and an annual fee will be charged, but no annual fee will be charged for type approval
